Long before the Egnatia highway cut through the hills and the port of Igoumenitsa became one of Greece's main gateways to Europe, Ladochori was just a quiet seaside village — the kind of place where a fisherman could set out at dawn, pull in whatever the Ionian Sea offered, and be back before the morning coffee went cold. That fisherman was Timotheos Miaris. And what he brought back, he served. Fresh, simple, honest. That was the beginning of Timos Taverna.
The beginning — Timotheos
With a small boat and a deep knowledge of local waters, Timotheos would head out to sea and return with the finest catch in the area. The first tourists to discover this corner of Epirus were welcomed with the freshest fish they had ever tasted. No menu needed — the sea decided.
The transformation
Decades passed. The Egnatia Motorway arrived. A modern ferry terminal rose from the waterfront. Igoumenitsa became the eastern gateway to Europe — connecting Italy, Corfu, and the Ionian Islands. The landscape around Ladochori changed beyond recognition. Almost everything did.
Today — Spyros Miaris
Timotheos's son, Spyros, runs the taverna now. Same door. Same spirit. Like that one Gaulish village of Asterix that held out while the world changed around it, this small corner of old Ladochori has stayed as untouched by time as possible — a deliberate act of love for what his father built.
"While everything around it was reshaped by ports, motorways and progress, Timos Taverna simply refused to change — and that is exactly why it matters."
The fish is as fresh as it gets. The taverna's DNA is built on the sea. From the steamed mussels — a house signature — to the catch of the day, freshness isn't a marketing claim here. It's a founding principle.
It feels like someone's home. Spyros carries on his father's warmth. Service is attentive whether you're a hungry ferry passenger with twenty minutes to spare or a guest lingering over a long meal.
Decades of craft, not trend-chasing. The menu reflects what Greek cooking has always been — honest ingredients, grilled meats, homemade dishes, mezedes made with care. No reinvention needed.
The perfect spot before a ferry. Right across from the terminal. Heading to Corfu or catching a night boat to Italy? This is where you should spend your last hour on Greek soil.
It's the real thing. In an era of Instagram-optimised restaurants, Timos Taverna is refreshingly indifferent to performance. What you get is exactly what it has always been — good food, served with pride.
🦪
Steamed mussels
The house signature. Ask for them — you won't regret it.
🐟
Fresh fish of the day
Whatever the sea offers. Grilled simply, as it should be.
🍢
Grilled meats
Charcoal-grilled souvlaki and pork — generous and full of flavour.
🥗
Greek salad
Fresh tomatoes, real feta. The foundation of every honest Greek table.
Timos Taverna is not a destination for those chasing novelty. It is a destination for those who understand that some things are worth preserving — a family's commitment to good food, a son's respect for his father's work, and a small piece of old Ladochori that has quietly, stubbornly, beautifully held its ground.
