Frequently Asked Questions — Staying in Perdika

Where is Perdika and is it a good base for a holiday in Greece?

Perdika is the largest village in Thesprotia, in Epirus, northwestern Greece, built on a hillside at about 200 m altitude with panoramic views over the Ionian Sea, Paxos and Corfu. It sits between Sivota (about 12 km north) and Parga (about 15 km south), about 30 km south of Igoumenitsa by road. It makes an excellent base if you want quiet, authentic village life within a short drive of some of the best beaches in the region — but note the village itself is not on the beach, so you drive down to the sea.

What are the advantages of staying in Perdika instead of Sivota or Parga?

Perdika is quieter and more authentic than busy Parga and more affordable than waterfront Sivota, while keeping you within 15–25 minutes of both. Its main draws are a large, traffic-free village square where children can play safely, a genuine Epirote atmosphere with olive and citrus gardens, the famous “Paratiritirio” sunset viewpoint, and easy access to around 10 beaches. It’s ideal for travellers who want a calm, local base rather than a resort. The trade-off is fewer bars, shops and nightlife than Parga.

Which beaches are near Perdika?

Perdika has about 10 beaches, all within roughly a 10–15 minute drive. The best known are Karavostasi (the longest, about 5 km from the village), Agia Paraskevi with its islet and chapel (about 9 km, on the road to Sivota), Arillas (shallow and safe for children), and smaller coves like Kamini, Agali, Sofas, Stavrolimenas and Mega Drafi. How far is Perdika from Sivota and Parga (driving times)?

From Perdika village it’s about 12 km (15–20 minutes) to Sivota and about 15 km (20–25 minutes) to Parga. Both make easy half-day or evening trips. For ideas, see our Sivota Travel Guide and Parga day trip guide.

How far is Perdika from Igoumenitsa and the ferry port?

Perdika is about 30 km by road from Igoumenitsa town and its ferry port — roughly a 25–30 minute drive. That makes Perdika a realistic, quieter base for travellers arriving by ferry from Italy or Corfu who want to be near the coast. For routes and schedules, see Ferries from Igoumenitsa to Corfu & Italy.

How do I get to Perdika from the airport?

The three nearest airports are Corfu (CFU), Ioannina (IOA) and Preveza/Aktion (PVK). By road, Perdika is about 105–111 km from Ioannina Airport and about 90–95 km from Preveza/Aktion — roughly 1 hour 30 minutes from either. Corfu Airport is closest by air but requires a ferry: drive to Igoumenitsa port (25–30 min) then a 50–90 minute crossing. There is no direct public bus to Perdika, so most visitors arrive by rental car or pre-booked taxi.

Do I need a car if I stay in Perdika?

In practice, yes. Perdika and most coastal villages are not served by regular KTEL buses, and the beaches are spread out 5–9 km from the village, often down separate roads. Without a car you’d be reliant on taxis and limited to walking distance of your accommodation. We strongly recommend a rental — see car rental in Igoumenitsa. If you prefer not to drive, check local taxi services.

Is Perdika good for families with children?

Yes. The large, car-free village square lets children play safely, and several nearby beaches — Arillas in particular — have shallow, calm, gently shelving water ideal for young swimmers. Just plan around the car requirement and note that a few beaches are unorganised (no sunbeds or shade), so bring your own umbrella.

Is Perdika a good choice for couples or a quiet holiday?

Very much so. The hillside setting, sunset viewpoint, slow village pace and uncrowded smaller coves suit couples and anyone after a relaxing, low-key holiday. If you want lively nightlife and a long beach promenade, Parga or Sivota will suit you better.

What is the village itself like — restaurants, shops, nightlife?

Perdika has a genuine working-village feel: tavernas, cafés and a few shops around the central square, plus a small Saturday market with local cheeses, olives and produce. It is calm and family-oriented rather than a party destination — nightlife is low-key and shop choice is limited compared with larger resorts. For dining ideas across the area, see Where to Eat.

When is the best time to visit Perdika?

Late spring (May–June) and early autumn (September–October) offer warm seas, pleasant temperatures and far fewer crowds. July and August are the warmest and liveliest but also the busiest — popular beaches such as Karavostasi and Agia Paraskevi fill up and parking can be tight around midday.

What are the drawbacks of staying in Perdika?

To be honest: the village is on a hill, not on the beach, so you drive down to the sea every day. You really need a car, as public transport to the coastal villages is minimal. The beaches are spread out, and a few (such as Mega Drafi and Prapamali) are reached only by steep, rough tracks or by boat. Nightlife and shopping are limited versus Parga, the choice of accommodation is smaller, and in peak August the main beaches get busy and parking fills early. If those things don’t bother you, Perdika rewards you with quiet, scenery and great water.
