Arriving by ferry? This is how pickup works
Igoumenitsa is the second-busiest passenger port on the Adriatic, and most people renting here have just come off an overnight crossing from Ancona, Bari, Brindisi or Venice, or the short hop from Corfu. That arrival is where a rental goes right or wrong.
Message ahead
Send IonVolt your ferry name and arrival time on WhatsApp. That is all they need.
Walk off the ferry
The car is waiting at the port, free of charge. No shuttle, no taxi to a depot outside town, no desk that closed twenty minutes before you docked.
Take the keys, go
A short briefing on charging if it is your first electric car, then straight to Sivota, Parga or the Acheron.
IonVolt is listed as open 24 hours on Google (checked 24 October 2026) and the phone line is answered around the clock, so a late or early ferry is never a problem. Adriatic ferries dock at hours that suit nobody: send your ferry name and arrival time and the handover is arranged around the boat.
Before you sail: port guide · ferry routes to Corfu & Italy · where to stay near the port, if you would rather collect the car in daylight.
What will your trip actually cost?
Move the slider. Same drive, petrol small car against an IonVolt electric car.
Assumptions: petrol car 6.5 L/100 km; EV 15 kWh/100 km; unleaded 95 at €1.988/L (national average, Fuel Price Observatory, 22 July 2026); public AC €0.40/kWh and DC €0.52/kWh on the PPC/DEI blue network; overnight charging ~€0.19/kWh. Ten days and 700 km: roughly €90 in petrol against €42 on public charging, and nearer €20 if your accommodation lets you plug in.

How far can you go? Day trips from Igoumenitsa
Return distance as a share of the Inster’s 327 km WLTP range. Real-world range is lower than WLTP, so treat the bar as a ceiling, and plan a top-up when it turns amber.

When a petrol car is the better call
We recommend IonVolt, but choose petrol if:
- you are doing non-stop 400+ km days with no time for a 20-minute fast-charge stop;
- you plan to cross into Albania — Sarandë and Butrint need special insurance and the EV network there is limited;
- your accommodation is in a remote village with no charger and you have an intense driving schedule.
Need petrol, a 4×4 or a van? Compare both local companies in our car rental guide.
First time in an electric car?
IonVolt guides you by message, and charging is easy at public stations, hotels and apartments, with apps like PlugShare and DEI blue. Most people stop thinking about it after the first day.
Electric car rental in Igoumenitsa — FAQ
Can I pick up the car at Igoumenitsa port?
Yes, free of charge, at any hour: IonVolt is open 24 hours (Google listing, checked 24 October 2026). Send your ferry name and arrival time.
Are all the cars automatic?
Yes. Every IonVolt car is an automatic electric car, so there is no clutch and nothing to learn.
How much cheaper is an electric car?
At July 2026 prices, roughly half. A 700 km trip costs about €90 in petrol against about €42 on public charging, and nearer €20 if you charge overnight where you stay.
Can I reach Sivota, Parga or the Acheron on one charge?
Easily — Sivota is about 24 km, Parga and the Acheron about 50 km. Even Ioannina and back (about 200 km) fits the larger batteries; see the day-trip bars above.
Where do I charge?
At PPC/DEI blue points in the port, AC points in town, DC chargers on the Egnatia Odos and over 250 public stations across Epirus. Install DEI blue, PlugShare and Chargemap first.
Is a charging cable included?
Confirm with IonVolt that a Type 2 cable is in the boot for AC posts.
Can I take the car to Albania?
Not without special insurance, and Albania’s charging network is limited. Choose a petrol car for that trip.
Do you deliver to Sivota or the airports?
Yes: Sivota, Plataria and Perdika to your accommodation, and Ioannina and Preveza airports.
Is it suitable for mountain roads?
The Leapmotor B10 has higher ground clearance and fast DC charging, which makes it the pick for Zagori and the Vikos Gorge.
